Ms. Lois Rapp, Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Gregg G. Mowen as DoDEA Pacific East District’s Yokosuka Community Superintendent. He previously served as the principal at Kubasaki High School on Camp Foster, Okinawa.
Dr. Mowen, received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Michigan State University, a Specialist in Arts (Sp.A.) from Eastern Michigan University, and a doctorate in education (Ed.D.) from Western Michigan University.
Dr. Mowen has been with DoDEA since 2001. His previous assignments include stints as Principal of Faith Middle School, Fort Benning, Georgia, Assistant Superintendent of the Puerto Rico and Cuba School systems, Principal of Mudge Primary and Fort Knox High Schools, Kentucky, Zama American High School, Japan, as well as the Okinawa district Chief of Staff.
Before joining DoDEA, Mowen taught both choral and instrumental music at Ainsworth High School in Flint, Michigan. He also served as the assistant superintendent for instruction and instructional support for Grand Rapids Public Schools in Michigan. He has also authored 20 published works on educational topics and made more than 30 professional presentations across the country including sessions at the American Association of School Administrator's National Conference and National Middle School Association Conference.
Dr. Mowen replaces LaVern Outen, who was appointed the community superintendent for the Pacific West District.
