Pacific Region West - Yongsan School Closures SY 2018-19

After 60 years the Seoul American Elementary and Middle High Schools will close.

The last day of school on June 14, 2019 will mark the end of an era in the remarkable history of our schools at Yongsan. Each of our three schools in Seoul has a rich and proud legacy of service to military-connected students. For the remainder of the school year, we will remain focused on our educational mission and our ability to provide an environment of stability for your children as the transformation progresses.

We hold our mission dear and will continue to provide for the educational needs of your children, our students, whether they remain in Seoul or move to Humphreys. We appreciate your support as we make this transition. Working together as partners, which is what we always do, we can make this a successful journey for all.

Pacific West District Superintendent

Families Staying in Yongsan

If you are a family remaining in Seoul beyond the school closures, DoDEA supports educational programming through The Non-DoD Schools Program (NDSP). The NDSP provides academic support and funding for the education of authorized command sponsored dependents of the U.S. Department of Defense military members and civilian employees assigned to overseas areas where no U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity School (DoDEA) is available.

Families Transitioning to USAG Humphreys

It is a privilege to serve our military families each day in PAC West. As military families are aware, change is constant. Many of you will be transitioning from the Seoul area to Camp Humphreys.

DoDEA has worked very hard to become one system, meaning that schools have the same standards, curriculum, and a variety of after school activities. We believe that commonalities between districts makes transitioning easier for students.

PAC West has a caring and concerned staff with high expectations that are here to welcome you to each school. It is our goal to assist you with questions and concerns. Pac West has scheduled March 4–8, 2019 for families moving from Seoul to Humphreys to re-register for next year within the Seoul complex.

Information on the registration will be sent home from the Seoul schools. Re-registering early notifies us of your intent to remain within the district. You will be provided a copy of your records at the end of the year including the re-registration packet to take to your new school with orders once housing has been assigned. This will make the process more efficient, especially when you arrive at Humphreys.

If you have questions regarding re-registration, please contact your child's school. We look forward to continually serving your family during this transition process.
