OKINAWA, JAPAN — June 21, 2019 — The Pacific Region announces that Mr. Jim Journey has been selected as District Superintendent of Schools for the DoDEA Pacific South District (Okinawa and Guam) starting the 2019-2020 school year. He currently serves as the Community Superintendent of the DoDEA Pacific South District’s Guam Field Office.
As Community Superintendent of the Guam Field Office, Mr. Journey has been responsible for over 2,600 students, 450 employees, and an annual budget of approximately $36 million.
Originally from Texas, Mr. Journey received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Sam Houston University. He joined DoDEA in 1989 teaching third and fourth grade as well as special education for 15 years before making the transition to School Administration. Mr. Journey worked as a principal in mainland Japan and Okinawa from 2002-2013.
Prior to arriving on Guam, Mr. Journey served DoDEA as an Assistant Superintendent of the Japan District from January 2013 to July 2016. Mr. Journey believes that communication is vital to the success of any operation. As a principal, he focused on creating an environment where students were comfortable coming to school yet challenged to do their best every day. He encourages parents to be active partners in education.
Mr. Journey is excited to work for all DoDEA Pacific South schools to ensure students are encouraged to reach their maximum potential.

The DoDEA Pacific Public Affairs Office initiates and manages DoDEA's communications and outreach efforts for the Pacific to include Guam, Japan, Okinawa, South Korea. The office is responsible for media relations, internal information programs and communication with students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the public.
