YOKOSUKA, JAPAN — November 14, 2019 — Dr. Judith J. Allen, DoDEA Pacific East Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Mary Fisk as the Assistant Principal at The Sullivans School located at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), Japan.

Mary Fisk began her career in education in the fall of 2003 at a small rural elementary school in Partlow, Virginia. After serving Spotsylvania County Schools as a classroom teacher in third and fifth grades, she moved to Beaufort, SC. Upon arriving in Beaufort, she was hired as a fourth grade teacher at a brand new charter school. Ms. Fisk then worked as a school counselor in Beaufort County until relocating to Iwakuni, Japan. She has worked a total of 7 years in DoDEA, both as a classroom teacher and school counselor, while aboard MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.

Ms. Fisk is originally from Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Kindergarten Education from the Pennsylvania State University. She received a Master of Education in School Counseling from George Mason University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Washington University. She believes being a life-long learner is essential in the field of education and continues to take classes to stay abreast of educational research.

Ms. Fisk’s professional experiences include being a classroom teacher in Kindergarten, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Also, she has worked as a school counselor in the Sure Start through sixth grade setting. She has presented at the National School Discipline Conference in Las Vegas, NV, was the co-chair and member of the Continuous School Improvement Team, has been the Site Testing Coordinator, served as a member of the Blue Ribbon application committee, assisted with multiple accreditation visits, and served as the Co-Chair for the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support programs. She was also selected as a TAP Model for Teacher and Student Advancement Mentor. Ms. Fisk has had the opportunity to implement research-based strategies that have produced improved test scores in all school environments. She enjoys collaborating with her community partners to ensure all of her students’ needs are the top priority.

As the wife of a retired Marine combat veteran, Ms. Fisk has firsthand experience with military life. She has a strong commitment to our military-connected students and is looking forward to developing relationships with the students, families, and educational staff at The Sullivans School. Mrs. Fisk is excited to bring her husband and three children to Yokosuka, and the Fisk family is looking forward to joining The Sullivans School Community.
