YOKOTA, JAPAN — May 17, 2022 — Dr. Judy Allen, DoDEA Pacific East District Superintendent, is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Hoai-My T. Winder as principal for Iwakuni Elementary School effective for the 2022-23 school year.
Mrs. Winder began her career as a school office clerk, teacher’s aide, and substitute teacher. In 2004, she became a licensed teacher and taught K-12 physical education. Mrs. Winder also holds endorsements to teach business software applications, computer science, and educational technology. Mrs. Winder joined DoDEA in 2015, teaching physical education at Shirley Lanham Elementary School. Mrs. Winder arrived at Yokota AB as the assistant principal at Mendel Elementary School in 2020. In 2021, she served in the capacity of the acting principal at Yokota West Elementary School.
Mrs. Winder holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Walden University, Graduate Certificates in Education Differentiation, Technology in Education, an Educational Specialist in Leadership & Administration, and will receive her Educational Doctorate in Leadership from Liberty University, June 2022.
“I consider school leadership to be an opportunity to serve the community,” Winder said. “I look forward to serving the Iwakuni families and teachers in any capacity that is needed.”
Mrs. Winder and her husband, Gregory, have been married since 1986 and have four sons. Her hobbies include running, spending time with her family, and traveling to new places.
