Ms. Sonja Rodriguez currently serves as the school principal for students at Patch Elementary School in Stuttgart, Germany. She is a second-generation public school educator, following in the path of her mother. Her service in public education includes work as an elementary classroom teacher, gifted education teacher, middle and high school science & math teacher, middle and high school assistant principal and principal at all levels in DoDEA schools. Ms. Rodriguez earned her M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University and holds certifications for School Principal (K-12) in Texas and DoDEA.
Ms. Rodriguez is the proud daughter of an Army veteran and spent her entireK-12 educational experience on military posts in Germany, Texas and Hawaii. Having attended twelve schools prior to graduating from high school, Ms. Rodriguez is well aware of the impact that permanent changes of station and deployments have on military children.
At Stuttgart ES, Ms. Rodriguez supports and encourages teachers in the utilization of research based instructional best practices designed to engage and motivate students. She encourages students to take pride in learning and personal accountability so that they become lifelong learners.
Dr. Patricia McDonald is currently the Assistant Principal for Alexander M. Patch Elementary School in Stuttgart, Germany. She began her teaching career in North Carolina. As a military spouse she has had the opportunity to teach in various schools in several states over the past 25 years, with 11 of those years working for DoDEA.
As a former DoDEA student, she understands the importance of teachers understanding their students as well as progressions of learning in order to set high expectations within a child centered/teacher directed environment. She consistently advocates for developmentally appropriate practices within a standardized curriculum, and continuously strive to connect research and theory to the realities of teaching in the classroom.
Dr. McDonald earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeastern University and a Master of Education in Administration from Cleveland State University. She received her Ph.D. in Education and a Graduate Certificate in K-8 Mathematics from Walden University. She has the honor of representing DoDEA as the 2017 Bavaria District Teacher of the Year.
Dr. McDonald is married to a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major. They have three daughters with whom they enjoy movie nights at home, traveling to new and familiar places, and spending summer nights at the beach.
