The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) - Europe held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Alexander M. Patch Elementary School (ES), located on Patch Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany. Patch ES is a DoDEA school serving more than 500 military-connected students living in Stuttgart, Germany.
The $49.4 million, 114,00 0 square-foot 21st Century Patch ES project includes 6 neighborhood areas with learning studios, learning hubs, group learning, and one-to-on spaces that have moveable walls creating flexible and adaptable spaces.
“Providing our students a safe and inspiring place to learn and preparing them for the modern world that awaits them is the primary motivation for constructing these incredible 21st Century Schools,” said Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, DoDEA Europe Director for Student Excellence. “I know that our wonderful administrators, educators and staff here at Patch ES will put this wonderful new school to good use and continue to provide our amazing military-connected students with the first-class education they deserve.”
The facility features art rooms, music rooms, a flex laboratory, a gymnasium and shared common space. Sustainability-related teaching tools, including a wind turbine, photovoltaic system, and energy dashboard depicting real-time energy consumption and generation data at the school. These are designed so teachers can incorporate into lesson plans to engage and excite the next generation of sustainability engineers. Students and teachers have been using this beautiful new facility since the beginning of the current school year.
