Ramstein Middle School Named One of Nation’s Top Schools

DoDEA Europe News Release
SEMBACH, Germany | September 29, 2016

U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced today that the Department of Defense Education Activity – Europe’s Ramstein Middle School has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. Ramstein MS is one among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor.

Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Nominees can be selected in two categories, Exemplary High Performing – among the top schools in a state or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing – schools making the fastest progress in their state to close achievement gaps in student subgroups.

“Being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School is a great honor for Ramstein Middle School,” said Principal Dan Petritz.

“It is a reflection of the hard work of our faculty and students as well as the outstanding support we receive from our military community. When a dedication to learning is combined with a supportive community, great strides can be made in education,” said Petritz.

Dr. Michelle Woodfork, Assistant Principal, and teacher Sequinn Lee will represent Ramstein MS at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the school’s achievement.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-age children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to high quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local
Educational Agencies throughout the United States that serve children of military families.
