Ms. Angelique Johnson - Van Voorhis ES Principal

Angelique Johnson began her career in 2001 as an elementary school teacher in Suffolk Public Schools (Suffolk, VA) before joining Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in 2003 (Charlotte, NC).  Her past experience includes positions as an elementary and middle school teacher, teacher mentor, department chair, continuous school improvement chairperson, and assistant principal.

In 2011, Mrs. Johnson joined DoDEA as a middle school Instructional Support at Shughart Middle School, Fort Bragg, NC.  In 2013, Mrs. Johnson served as Assistant Principal at Barkley Elementary, Fort Campbell, KY, and Van Voorhis Elementary School, Fort Knox, KY.  She was promoted to Principal in August of 2015.  Under her leadership as Principal, Van Voorhis was recognized as one of three Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools named in 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools.

Mrs. Johnson serves as the principal of Van Voorhis Elementary School in the Americas Southeast District.  She has a passion for education and serving our military families and community. "I believe in building and maintaining strong community-school partnerships that involve all stakeholders in the learning process," she said.  "I envision school as a place where students have fun learning, teachers are excited about teaching, parents are involved, and where everyone is committed to educational excellence."

Mrs. Johnson is a military brat who grew up in the state of Virginia.  She received her bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University, (Norfolk, VA) and later earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University (Wingate, NC).

Mrs. Johnson currently resides in Elizabethtown, KY and has two children and two grandchildren.
