Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Vicenza Elementary School, home of the Cougar Cubs! We are a school community that cares about our children and understands the sacrifices that our military families make. Our faculty and staff have shared values and a commitment to academic excellence. We are fortunate in that we are one of 15 schools DoDEA-wide that has been selected to pilot the DoDEA Twenty-first Century Teaching Leading and Learning Initiative. What this means for your children is that they have the opportunity to engage in authentic learning that will give them the tools to succeed in a constantly changing world.
I'd like to invite our families to play an active role in their children's education. We have a very active PTSA and School Advisory Committee. In addition, you are always welcome to volunteer in our classrooms.
I am very proud of our school. It has a large student population but, a small school feel. Come join us as we work together to help your children succeed.
Allison Peltz, Principal
Ms. Allison Peltz grew up as an Army "brat" and understands the challenges inherent in the lives of military children and their families. She followed in her mother's footsteps, beginning her DoDEA career in 1991, after teaching for ten years in the United States. She spent eighteen years in Asia, teaching in Seoul, Korea, at Seoul American Elementary School, and in Okinawa, Japan, at Amelia Earhart Intermediate School. In 2007 she began her administrative career as an assistant principal at Edward C. Killin Elementary School. In 2009 she accepted the position of Principal at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Heidelberg, Germany. When the Heidelberg schools closed in 2013, Ms. Peltz accepted the position of Principal at Vicenza Elementary School.
Ms. Peltz earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 1981 and a Master of Music Education in 1983 from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana. She completed a Master of Education in 2003 from the College of New Jersey.
Ms. Peltz has an extensive background in school improvement and staff development. While in DoDDS-Pacific, she worked as an in-house staff developer, presenting new curriculum and best practices in teaching to educators, both in her home school and in the Okinawa District. She taught graduate level courses in analysis of student work and assessment for San Diego State University and served as a resource for other staff developers.
While in Heidelberg, Ms. Peltz established a strong academic coaching program in both math and reading. A strong believer in active student engagement, she successfully worked to add two math labs and three science labs within her school building. She provided opportunities for professional growth for her staff through her support of Professional Learning Teams, study groups, and needs-based professional development. She developed data teams and met with them regularly to address student needs by targeting areas for improvement. She worked with volunteers and the military command to pilot a nutrition intervention program aimed at teaching students the value of healthy eating and active life-styles.
Ms. Peltz believes that student success is relationship-based. Children learn best when they develop trusting relationships with their teachers and when they are supported by collaborative teacher/parent/community partnerships.
Ms. Peltz is enjoying her second year as a "Cougar Cub" and is pleased to be a part of the Vicenza community. She supports our school's vision based on shared values and academic excellence.
Building a strong foundation for lifelong learning!
