Mr. Emilio Garza is the Principal of W.T. Sampson Elementary/High School, Fort Bragg/Cuba Community, Mid-Atlantic District of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).
Prior to coming to Cuba, Mr. Garza served as the Principal of Brewster Middle School, Camp Lejeune District Schools, NC. Before Brewster Middle, he served as the Assistant Principal and Principal of Gordon Elementary School, Fort Bragg Schools, NC. During his tenure as Assistant Principal, he served as the acting Assistant Principal at Lejeune High School in Camp Lejeune.
Prior to joining DoDEA, he worked in two public school systems, serving as Assistant Principal and Principal.
Mr. Garza is a U. S. Army retiree. His last active duty assignment was South Dakota State University, SD, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science.
Mr. Garza earned a Bachelor’s degree in Resources Management from Troy State University in Fort Benning, GA. He earned a Master of Arts degree in (Educational) Leadership Studies, a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Employee Relations, and an Education Specialist degree in Leadership Studies from Marshall University Graduate College, WV. While attending Marshall University, he was selected for membership in the Marshall University Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. Mr. Garza is married to Linda D. (Densmore) Garza. Mrs. Garza is from a military family.
Ms. Thelberstine Barbee serves as the Assistant Principal at WT Sampson School stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Prior to coming to WT Sampson, Ms. Barbee served as the AVID Instructional Systems Specialist for DoDEA Americas stationed at Fort Campbell, KY serving both the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Districts for almost 3 years. Her teaching experience spans the DoDEA globe. She was an educator at Spangdahlem Middle School in Germany, Daegu American School in Daegu, South Korea and Ramey School in Aguadilla Puerto. Ms. Barbee is also an experienced administrator, having served as the Assistant Principal at Ramey School in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (SY 2014-2017); 2 Interim Asst. Principal assignments in the KY District one at Barsanti Elementary School located at the 101st in Fort Campbell in 2017 and the other at Fort Knox High School in 2018.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Tuskegee University and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee in Biological Chemistry. Her work history includes working as a Quality Control Chemist at Block Drug Company, as a Research Specialist at the University of Tennessee, Dept. of Anesthesiology and at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the Department of Virology and Microbiology (research on the H1N1 Flu virus), and teaching in Northwest Tennessee. Her work experiences and educational background continues to inform the way she supports and assists programs and DoDEA initiatives in college and career readiness through her coaching, teaching and learning. Ms. Barbee considers Union City Tennessee and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico “home” and her immediate family includes her daughter Olivia, sister Teresa, and niece Yolanda
