Department of Defense Education Activity

At Yokota Middle School, we have created a co-curricular program that is student-centered and therefore one that kids want to be a part of. Activities are driven by student interest and may change yearly. To identify varying interests, we are constantly soliciting recommendations from students. Participation rates are extremely high and hopefully there is an activity to suit each student. By keeping students involved after school, we are choosing to lead our school toward a happier and healthier learning environment.

Academic Eligibility Requirement for Grades 5-8

Students in grades 5-8 must meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities:

  • Maintain a "C" or higher in each class
  • Attend school with at least a 95% attendance rate.

Running Club

YMS will be starting the running club if your student is interested. It's for all
grade levels 6-8th grade. Please have your student stop by Mr.Heino class 125 to pick up a
permission slip - Running club will be Monday-Thursdays from 2:45-4:15 pm. Students will
meet in the gym, then go outside. For any questions please email Mr.Heino.

Students assemble Lego EV3 robots, perform programming through trial-and-error coding and as well as
logic/mechanical data-based programming. Saturday competitions may happen with
teams from Yokosuka and Zama Middle Schools with possible competition at Yokota
Middle School. These competitions are subject to change based on COVID-19
precautions. Students work with other team members to build and code robots
Expectations of the robotics club are: 1. Your ability to work hard as part of a team to
complete whatever task needs to be addressed is essential – you must be flexible. 2.
Regular attendance at the club is vital – you must be reliable. 3. Some work outside of
club hours will be required (research, preparation, competitions) – you must be
committed. 4. Students do all the work at the robotics club, so you will be expected to
multi-task and take on responsibilities outside of your comfort zone – you must be
willing to grow.
