Department of Defense Education Activity
All students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities whether they be athletic, academic or social in nature. These activities help to shape students and prepare them for success after high school as part of a well-rounded education. Our School offers many activities for students to choose from.

It is DoDEA policy that students have the "right to a public education of high quality, including the opportunity to participate in activities," in accordance with Executive Order 13160, DoDEA Administrative Instruction (Al) 2500.14 and Department of Defense Instruction 1342.12, "without regard to race, sex, color, national origin, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or status as a parent." (DoDEA Al 2051.02, Section 4.a.l.,p.2.)

It is DoDEA policy that a student with a disability, or who has a record of a disability, or is regarded as having a disability, shall not be excluded from participating in, or be denied the benefits of, any DoDEA education program or activity;or be subjected to discrimination based solely on a disability." (DoDEA Al 2500.14, Section 4.a., p.2.)

Book Club

This after school club will increase students’ social skills, encourage reading and writing, and engage students in different book-related activities.  We will delve into appropriate leveled books to read while boosting reading achievements.

Chess Club

Students will put their cognitive skills to the test as they learn chess rules and strategies. Chess is a great way to facilitate high order thinking skills in a game style setting.  All students that have a desire to learn the game are welcome.

Crane Creators

Do you like creating things on the computer? Do you like Engineering? We will explore many computer programs like code.org, Coaster Creator, Fidgets, Lego software & Programing, and many more.

Drawing Club

Students will be able to use the time to learn different techniques of drawing. They will be given the opportunity to create comics and maybe be published in the school newspaper. As students grow they will be given the opportunity to work on digital drawings.

Homework Club

Students will be able to come into a quiet environment to receive help on their homework, complete projects, or enhance their learning.

Honor Guard

Students will be responsible for raising and lowering the flag daily as well as posting and retiring colors, flag folding.

Lego Club

Students work on cooperation and teamwork while building Lego creations to foster their imagination and creativity.

Pokemon Club

This club is designed to foster communication, teamwork, friendship and higher levels thinking associated with learning tactics and game play.  It addresses the social-emotional needs of all students as well as promoting higher cognitive abilities. Students will be able to bring their Pokemon cards and play as well as learn about Pokemon. Trading of Pokemon cards is permitted with permission from parents. A permission slip must be signed in order to engage in the trading of cards.

Student Council

Students will work together to become the voice and represent the student body of YWES. They will work closely with staff and the PTO to effect positive change for our school (Identify needs of the student body, brainstorm solutions, hold offices, lead weekly meetings, etc.)

Video Production

Students will Film, Act, Edit, and Produce for the Crane News Network.

Wednesday Wonder

Students have an opportunity to further develop what they have learned in ESL through interactive play. Games and activities provide an exciting and fun environment to use and develop their language.

YWES Chorus & Music Club

This is a performance group for musicians at YWES!  Students will learn the basics of good vocal technique through quality children’s choral literature.  We will also play Orff instruments (xylophones & percussion instruments).  We will perform music from a variety of time periods, cultures, and styles. There will be 2 performances, perhaps virtual, (January & May) to share with parents. All students in grades 3-5 who enjoy music are encouraged to join the club!
