Celebrating 250 Years of American History
DoWEA Speaks
Amplifying our student voices and promoting global connections among military-connected students.
The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) recognizes the historic significance of the America 250 commemoration and is actively honoring and highlighting this milestone across our school communities.
As a school system serving military-connected students around the world for nearly 80 years. DoWEA is committed to ensuring all activities align with our educational mission and reflect America’s founding principles.
America 250 marks a historic milestone in the nation’s history, offering an opportunity to reflect on America’s founding principles, celebrate civic responsibility, and engage students in meaningful learning.
DoWEA schools are incorporating America 250 into classrooms through student projects, educator-led lessons, and activities that provide students with a global perspective on America’s founding principles. Schools are also emphasizing the contributions of military families and service members, reflecting the shared responsibility that supports America’s ideals.
Through these efforts, DoWEA emphasizes student voice, creativity, and learning while celebrating America 250 in a way that aligns with its educational mission and values. Additional stories, videos, and highlights of student projects will be shared throughout the commemoration period on DoWEA’s social media channels and website.
DoWEA Speaks
DoWEA Speaks is a global student initiative designed to amplify student voices, build literacy skills, and promote global connections among military-connected students in observance of America 250.
America 250 is a milestone that gives our students the chance to explore the history and values that built our nation. At DoWEA, we’re connecting lessons in the classroom with real-world civic understanding, helping military-connected students reflect on the past while preparing to be active, engaged citizens of the future.
DoWEA has a long and proud history of serving military families at locations around the globe.
DoWEA's beginnings can be traced back to the end of World War II with the establishment of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS). At the end of the war, there was no precedent to follow for establishing and operating dependents schools in foreign occupied countries and quite often, parents organized small schools.
