Welcome to Barkley Elementary School! We are a 21st century school! Barkley is a “state of the art school” in terms of our building and classroom design, as well as our technology. Our school is a green ribbon school and utilizes solar panels, water capture and geothermal heating and air. The building is wireless with at least one computer for every two students. Smartboards are also accessible to students throughout the school. Each classroom studio is beautiful and open in order for teachers and students to work collaboratively with attention to the needs of individual students.
Barkley offers a multiplicity of services for our students. From Special Education (SPED), to Gifted Education (GE), art, music, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Elementary Spanish (FLES) as well as after school activities for students, we’ve got something for everyone. We have counseling services, speech services, physical and occupational therapy services for our students as well.
We are proud that we serve the students of the United States military living on Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Our students’ safety and education are primary for those of us that get to work here and our parents know their kids are in good hands at Barkley Elementary School. . We invite you to explore our website or better yet, visit our school. We know you will love it.

In DODEA, we are required to have at least four GOALS. Two of these goals are to address academics and two are to address the (Barkley) organizational operations. In other words, these organizational goals are non-academic goals that focus on overall school improvement.
Barkley’s goals are summarized as follows:
Goal 1: Literacy (ACADEMIC)
All students in grades K-3 will increase their reading achievement … as measured by specific grade level expectations for the “Independent Level” from SY17-18 to SY19-20.
All students in grades 4-5 will increase their reading achievement … as measured by specific grade level year-end proficiency ranges from SY17-18 to SY19-20.
Goal 2: Math (ACADEMIC)
Barkley Elementary students in grades 3-5 will increase their achievement in mathematics on the DoDEA CCRS Summative Assessments … in SY 19-20.
Goal 3: Professional Learning Communities/ Focused Collaboration (NON-ACADEMIC)
Barkley Elementary School PLC Rating Score on the Shared Vision Indicator will move from the “Developing” stage in SY 17-18 to “Sustaining” stage by SY 19-20…
Goal 4 – School Climate & Culture (NON-ACADEMIC)
The score on the Teacher Expectation component will improve as measured on the Teacher Climate and Culture Assessment by SY 19-20…
We work on tracking and addressing goals DAILY. We also track some data focusing on specific school/grade level assessments at specified times during the school year. On early-release Tuesdays, our professional development addresses these goals, with the focus usually on the ACADEMIC GOALS, but not always. Our teachers also meet weekly in teams with admin to address classroom assessment findings and develop ways to address INDIVIDUAL student needs. NON-ACADEMIC goals are also addressed at these meetings.
All of these meetings are “guided” by our school leadership team and our team leaders who also meet with admin outside normal school hours. In addition, we have teacher teams that address specialized areas such as Special Education, Gifted Education and Student Support. We would
not only welcome, but be grateful for PARENT PARTICIPATION in the school leadership time. Please let admin or your child’s teacher know if you are interested in being a positive change agent here at Barkley. You will NOT be sorry.
