Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement (AP) program offers more than 40 courses that help students experience college‑level learning while still in high school. Through AP, students can earn college credit, strengthen important skills like critical thinking and time management, and build confidence.

DoWEA encourages all students to take at least one AP course in high school. Whether students want to dive deeper into a subject, they already enjoy or explore something new, AP classes challenge students in a supportive way by helping them grow, stay motivated, and discover what they’re capable of.

Any student can take an AP course. AP classes focus on helping students use what they learn, with an emphasis on real‑world application. To be considered for college credit, students must take the AP exam; however, the exam is not required to earn high school credit. Students who complete an AP course but choose not to take the exam will still receive weighted high school credit. For more information about Advanced Placement, visit College Board’s AP website.
