Developing leaders, strengthening school communities through JROTC

Across DoWEA Europe West, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs play an important role in developing student leaders while strengthening school communities. Through these programs, cadets learn discipline, responsibility, teamwork and service—skills that positively influence school culture and extend far beyond the classroom.

For many cadets, JROTC is more than a class. It is an opportunity to build confidence, character and a sense of purpose while supporting their schools through community service, school events and leadership roles.

As America marks its 250th anniversary, cadets and instructors from across Europe West reflected on what JROTC means to them and the impact the program has had on their lives, schools and communities.

Spangdahlem High School JROTC

At Spangdahlem High School, cadets describe a program centered on leadership and opportunity. Students emphasized that JROTC provides a forum for taking initiative and contributing ideas that lead to meaningful improvement.

AFNORTH Middle High School JROTC

The JROTC program at AFNORTH Middle High School focuses on camaraderie, future readiness and leadership through service. Cadets highlighted a strong sense of belonging and community.

Lakenheath High School JROTC

With nearly 50 years of history, the Lakenheath High School JROTC program emphasizes excellence, leadership development and service. Cadets shared how the program helped them build confidence and public speaking skills.

SHAPE High School JROTC

At SHAPE High School, JROTC is shaped by a diverse student population and places a strong emphasis on character development and goal setting. Cadets actively support their school and the broader community through service events.

Alconbury Middle High School JROTC

At Alconbury Middle High School, cadets focus on being an active part of a close-knit community. They support athletic events, Sept. 11 remembrance ceremonies, Veterans Day observances and numerous other school and community activities.
