In a recent meeting aimed at ensuring seamless education as students move from DoDEA Americas Fort Bragg schools to local high schools, Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy visited with Teresa Moon, community superintendent for the DoDEA Mid-Atlantic District, to discuss ways to strengthen ties and support students shifting from Fort Bragg's pre-K through eighth-grade programs.

DoDEA Americas operates schools on Fort Bragg for younger grades but lacks a high school, making collaboration with Cumberland County essential. Students from Albritton Middle School, for instance, typically transition to Cumberland County high schools like E.E. Smith for grades nine through 12.

"This partnership provides continuity in education and a stable environment for military-connected students," Moon said.

During the visit, Moon outlined DoDEA's core values, mission and vision, along with key Fort Bragg statistics. The group also met with School Liaison Officer Iris Pierce and two Mid-Atlantic District instructional support specialists, Umesheka Harris-McNeil and Wendy Sancho, to review ongoing math and literacy initiatives at Albritton Middle.

The team toured the school, led by Principal Brad Burgess, highlighting shared commitments to instructional needs.

For DoDEA staff, military partners and parents, the alliance means unified resources without added costs to DoDEA. It focuses on building a supportive bridge for eighth-to-ninth-grade transitions, helping students thrive academically and socially.

Both districts pledged to continue growing the relationship for a cohesive educational experience.
