Fort Knox honors school bus drivers, attendants and aides

Fort Knox Community Schools celebrated its first Bus Driver, Safety Attendant and Safety Aide Appreciation Day on April 28, 2026, recognizing the Department of War Education Activity transportation professionals who ensure safe, daily commutes for students.

The event aligns with a tradition that began in California in 2009 through Senate Concurrent Resolution 157 and has since gained recognition across the country.

Mr. Chris Height, program specialist in the Fort Knox Community Schools Student Transportation Office, led the effort with Mrs. Vicki Noble, bus manager; Mrs. Denise Wright-Melhorn, administrative clerk with Taylor Motors Student Busing Service; and Ms. Cassandra Birch, secretary in the Central Staff Office. Their collaboration created a dedicated day to highlight the critical contributions of transportation staff.

Organizers noted the observance sends a lasting message to future transportation professionals, parents and school staff about the value of safe, secure and reliable service that supports every student’s educational journey.

Community Superintendent Mrs. Kimberly Dunn addressed attendees and presented Mrs. Noble with a Coin of Recognition. The award recognized the team’s dedication to professionalism and the positive, safe experience they provide, which helps foster the stable learning environment essential to DoWEA’s focus on civics and patriotism.
