Jazz on the Lawn caps Month of the Military Child at Fort Stewart schools
Military-connected students and their families across Fort Stewart came together for an evening of live music, community and connection as Jazz on the Lawn closed out the Month of the Military Child.
The collaborative event united all three Fort Stewart schools, local artists and school musicians on the lawn in a relaxed setting filled with books, blankets and performances. Families gathered to celebrate the resilience of military children while enjoying jazz under the evening sky.
The gathering was organized with leadership from Stacy McDonald, assistant principal at Murray Elementary School. The Kessler and Murray elementary parent-teacher organizations supplied refreshments, and Murray art teacher Ms. Roche designed special Month of the Military Child tattoo artwork. Dr. Amber Lindsay, music teacher at Murray Elementary, helped coordinate a lineup of performers to create a memorable experience.
Performances featured the Fort Stewart Brass Quintet, the Bradwell Institute High School Jazz Band, the Performing Arts Collective of Savannah and local saxophonist Paul Pajari. The mix of professional and student talent underscored the value of arts education in strengthening school communities.
Families from across the schools relaxed on blankets and lawn chairs, listening, dancing and reading together. The event highlighted partnerships among schools, educators, families and the broader community — reinforcing the shared values of service, citizenship and patriotism that support military-connected students.
Jazz on the Lawn served as the culminating Month of the Military Child activity for Fort Stewart schools. Organizers hope it becomes an annual tradition that continues to honor military children through music and connection.
As the final notes faded, the evening reinforced a clear message: when schools, families and community partners collaborate, military-connected students thrive. Fort Stewart schools plan to build on this success with more opportunities that celebrate student achievement and civic pride throughout the year.
