Osan ES and Humphreys West ES Students Turn the 67th Day of School into a Celebration of Creativity

PYEONGTAEK, South Korea — What do you get when you mix the 67th day of school, a viral trend, and two classrooms bursting with creativity? A day of laughter, learning, and unforgettable connections!

Fifth graders from Ms. Deneshia Gray, Mr. Rommel DeLeon, and Abigail Seen homeroom classes, at Osan Elementary School and fourth graders from Ms. Brittany Bonner’s homeroom at Humphreys West Elementary joined to transform the quirky phrase “6…7…” into a full-blown learning adventure. For one incredible day, students collaborated virtually, sharing ideas and proving that numbers can inspire creativity across every subject.

The challenge? Make 6 and 7 apart of everything. Students solved problems where “6” and “7” were central, such as creating multi-step word problems that included these numbers in operations. They also incorporated “6” and “7” into sentences and short stories, focusing on grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, reinforcing parts of speech and sentence fluency.

“It was amazing to see how a simple idea could spark so much creativity,” said Ms. Brittany Bonner. “Students weren’t just learning, they were laughing, connecting, and building friendships across campuses,” added Ms. Deneshia Gray.

The celebration ended with a virtual showcase where students proudly presented their favorite “6…7” projects. And what’s a party without treats? Cupcakes and cake decorated with the theme made the day even sweeter. Students agreed the best part was “working with new friends” and “finding cool ways to use 6 and 7 in everything.”

The activity directly supported the following math and ELA standards for grades 4-5:

  • 4.NBT.B.4: Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
  • 5.NBT.B.7: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value.
  • 4.L.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
  • 5.W.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

This milestone proves that DoDEA schools are redefining learning by blending technology, creativity, and collaboration. The 67th day may have started as just a number, but it became a symbol of joy, innovation, and connection.
