CAMP HUMPHREYS, SOUTH KOREA – The verdict is in for the Pacific West District’s 2025 Mock Trial Competition, “Law and Order: The Student Edition,” held May 31, 2025, at the Camp Humphreys courthouse.

The Pacific West District partnered with the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) office across three installations in a yearlong collaboration project to offer students a front row seat and experience in the legal field. Attorney coaches teamed up with DoDEA educators as school volunteers to prepare the student teams.

Participating schools included Humphreys High School, Osan Middle High School, Daegu Middle High School, Humphreys Middle School, and Taejon Christian International School. Tryouts were held in the fall of 2024 for the competitive teams and students began the work of learning courtroom proceedings and preparing for trial.

“The program partnership affords students a powerful platform to build confidence, think critically, and speak with purpose,” said Defense Counsel Cpt. Teriel Dixon, who served as a volunteer and the competition coordinator. “It is a meaningful way for learning as students explore future career fields.”

Humphreys High School senior Emma Lorenz spoke of her experience and shared that she is looking to continue with mock trial during her collegiate studies.

The competition consisted of a two preliminary rounds, with the highest scoring teams facing off in the final round in the 9-12 secondary division. Humphreys High School took home the first-place title, with Osan Middle High School placing second, and Taejon International Christian School clinching the third place slot. Guam schools held a separate competition earlier in the year. The district has become vested in the program, with hopes of it partnering with other Pacific Region school districts to become a Far East Competition in the future.
