Students Can Chat Safer with New Settings in Google Chat

Beginning August 5, 2025, student Chat Safer settings for Google Chat and Spaces will be implemented across all DoDEA locations. These settings were initially introduced in November 2024 at select sites within the Americas and Europe regions.

The Chat Safer settings restrict students’ ability to:

• Create new group chats or group spaces

• Message students and staff across multiple schools or regions

Teachers can continue to create and monitor both group and individual chats for students. These settings do not affect teacher access but provide control for monitoring student chats and spaces, ensuring a more secure and enhanced educational experience.
