Students can share their stories for America’s Field Trip
The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) is encouraging its students to submit entries for America’s Field Trip, a nationwide contest that invites young people in grades 3–12 to share what America means to them through original artwork or writing.
Held during National Civic Learning Week, the program will award 125 first‑place students with field trips to major historic and cultural sites, including Mount Rushmore, the National Archives, Kennedy Space Center, the White House, and Yellowstone National Park. An additional group of second‑place winners will receive cash prizes.
Students are asked to submit writing or original artwork in response to the contest’s prompt: “What does America mean to you?”
Organizers said the contest offers a meaningful way for students to reflect on the nation’s history while exploring perspectives on national identity. A total of 250 awardees will earn either a behind‑the‑scenes field trip experience this summer or a monetary award.
America250, which leads the initiative, encourages parents, teachers, and community members to help boost participation. The organization released a contest flyer that has more information and how to apply.
Entries closed Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
