Understanding The Blueprint for Continuous Improvement: Goal 1 - Student Excellence
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) has launched its Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, a five-year strategic plan guiding our school system from 2025 through 2030.
At the heart of this plan is Goal #1: Student Excellence, which emphasizes preparing every student for success in college, career, and life. This commitment builds on DoDEA’s position as the top-performing school system in the nation, a distinction earned by keeping students at the center of every decision.
“Every student deserves a world-class education,” said Dr. Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, Director of DoDEA, “We are dedicated to preparing every student for success in college, career, and life through excellent instruction and a responsive system of support and extensions tailored to individual student needs.”
Under the Goal of Student Excellence, DoDEA is focusing on three specific strategic initiatives:
The first strategic initiative strengthens the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), ensuring that the academic achievement, well-being, and resilience of every military-connected student is supported to meet their individual needs.
“Every student is different,” said Mr. Daniel Petritz, MTSS Specialist for DoDEA, “the Multi-Tiered System of Supports is designed to ensure that our schools work for every student.”
The second strategic initiative, called Future-Ready Learner, expands opportunities to equip students with skills they need for success in their future academic, professional, and vocational endeavors.
“We define success as more than just teaching students to perform well academically,” said Ryan Goodfellow, DoDEA Innovation Management Specialist, “our students need to learn a wide array of skills to prepare them for whatever the future holds.”
The third strategic initiative centers on Student Transitions. A reality for students in military-connected families is the frequent need to relocate schools and often move between different countries. This initiative helps students seamlessly adjust when making those transitions.
Together, these initiatives reflect DoDEA’s promise to meet students where they are while helping them thrive in new and challenging environments.
With Student Excellence as its foundation, DoDEA continues to encourage curiosity, inspire lifelong learning, and create success for our military-connected students.
