Understanding The Blueprint for Continuous Improvement: Goal 2 - School Excellence
DoDEA’s Blueprint for Continuous Improvement recognizes that strong schools are the cornerstone of student success. Goal #2: School Excellence focuses on ensuring that excellent instruction takes place in every classroom, and that educators and leaders have the resources and support they need to help students thrive. This goal reflects DoDEA’s belief that when schools operate at their very best, students are able to achieve their very best.
“As a former teacher and school principal, I have the utmost respect for the incredible work that our teachers and administrators perform,” said Dr. Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, Director of DoDEA. “The Goal of School excellence is designed to ensure that every facet of each our individual DoDEA schools is working harmoniously to eliminate all obstacles to student success.”
The School Excellence goal is supported by two major initiatives. The first builds a System of Differentiated Professional Learning, giving teachers access to job-embedded, high-quality learning and supports designed to improve instruction across every subject and grade level. The second initiative, Prioritize Instructional Leadership, empowers school and district leaders to focus more of their time on supporting teaching and learning, while streamlining administrative tasks. Together, these actions ensure that every school is equipped to provide a world-class education.
“The pedagogical support our educators receive is cutting edge and among the best in the field,” said Dr. Jayme Linton, DoDEA Chief Academic Officer. “We do everything in our power to ensure that every educator has the right support provided at the right time so that students can succeed. Through this Strategic Initiative, we’re being responsive to feedback from educators and providing more differentiated professional learning opportunities than ever.”
DoDEA has set measurable outcomes to track progress, such as the impact of professional learning on instruction, the effectiveness of coaching and support, and how efficiently schools and leaders carry out their responsibilities. By committing to continuous growth for educators and leaders alike, the School Excellence goal ensures that all students benefit from consistent, high-quality teaching in classrooms worldwide.
“DoDEA is committed to providing differentiated professional learning tailored to specific educator roles, ensuring alignment and coherence in implementation of our priorities,” said Dr. Thea LopezParrish, Chief, Specialized Content, Innovation and Instructional Leadership. “By freeing school leaders to focus on instructional leadership and fostering distributed leadership practices, we are able to create the conditions for excellent teaching and improved student achievement across all schools.”
The Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, Goal #2: School Excellence, like all of the Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, is ultimately about driving student success. Excellence in professional learning for DoDEA’s educators ensures that they can continue to provide the highest quality education and support for our military-connected students and their families.
