Wiesbaden students represent DoWEA at Patriot Games
Wiesbaden students represented military-connected children living overseas at this year's Patriot Games, an athletic competition that brings together military-connected youth from across the United States and around the world.
Daniel Carter and Bella Proffitt applied to compete in the Patriot Games and were selected to represent military children living overseas. The students traveled to Geneva, Ohio, on Aug. 5 for the competition, which was hosted at SPIRE Academy.
The Patriot Games provided an opportunity for participants to compete alongside other military-connected youth while building friendships and sharing their experiences as students living overseas.
Daniel and Bella spent two days participating in orientation activities and practices before competition began Sunday and Monday. Events included a presidential qualifier, kickball, dodgeball and other athletic challenges designed to test participants across multiple disciplines.
At the conclusion of the first day of competition, Daniel ranked 13th overall among the boys following the presidential qualifier and the kickball and dodgeball events. Bella finished among the top 10 competitors in the varsity circuit, which included 60 athletes.
Competition continued Monday afternoon as the top 16 athletes advanced to the semifinals. By the end of the day, the field had been narrowed to eight finalists who advanced to Tuesday's championship round.
Although Daniel and Bella did not advance to the semifinals, participating in the Patriot Games was a significant achievement and provided an opportunity to connect with students from across the country.
"The Patriot Games were an amazing and unique experience," Bella said. "I loved making all the memories and friendships along the way. It was such a cool opportunity to go back to the States and connect with kids from all over the United States. Sports were the one thing that brought us all together for a cause bigger than ourselves, and it will always be unforgettable."
For Daniel, representing military-connected students living overseas was one of the most meaningful aspects of the experience.
"I was proud to represent overseas military kids and get to meet a lot of cool people from all over the country," Daniel said. "It was an unforgettable experience, and I'm honored to have been selected to participate."
The students' participation highlights the determination and resilience often demonstrated by military-connected youth. While living overseas presents unique experiences and challenges, students continue to pursue opportunities that allow them to grow, compete and represent their communities.
Through athletics, academics, service and leadership, DoWEA students develop skills and experiences that help prepare them for future success. Daniel and Bella's participation in the Patriot Games showcased their willingness to take on new challenges while representing military-connected students living overseas.
