Mr. Robert K. Smith

Mr. Rob Smith, Europe Region, Instructional Support Specialist (ISS), received the DoDEA Employee of the Quarter award for his exceptional leadership and adaptability. 

During the quarter, Mr. Smith managed both the Student Activities Program and the Junior ROTC (JROTC) program across Europe. After the unexpected departure of the JROTC ISS, Mr. Smith assumed oversight of 18 JROTC units serving over 1,400 cadets, despite having no prior military experience. He quickly earned the trust of instructors and administrators, ensuring uninterrupted operations during a critical transition period. 

Mr. Smith navigated new funding guidance by coordinating with instructors, cadet commands, legal advisors, and resource teams to maintain compliance and continuity. He also updated the Europe Region’s Student Activities Procedures Guide, improving clarity and efficiency in chaperone assignments and operational processes. 

Additionally, Mr. Smith vetted new German vendors to reduce shipping costs for program supplies. He combined two major events—the Jazz Festival and Culinary Arts Showcase—into a single, cost-effective experience without sacrificing quality. His professionalism and commitment have significantly strengthened JROTC and student programs across Europe.
