Military Spouse Appreciation Month
May is Military Spouse Appreciation Month
Military Spouse Appreciation Month (MSAM) is observed annually in May to recognize the contributions, resilience, and sacrifices of military spouses and families. Established in 1984 and later expanded to a month-long observance, MSAM highlights the essential role military spouses play in sustaining military readiness, supporting service members, and strengthening communities.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day is traditionally observed on the Friday before Mother’s Day, but the entire month provides an opportunity for organizations across the Department of War to express gratitude and reinforce support for military families.
During Military Spouse Appreciation Month, the Department of War Education Activity proudly recognizes the invaluable contributions of military spouses — both within our workforce and across the military community. DoWEA is honored to employ military spouses whose resilience, adaptability, and dedication directly strengthen our mission and support the readiness of the force, our schools, and the families we serve.
