DoDEA Europe Announces Appointment of Superintendent for East District
Sembach, Germany —
Dr. Michelle Howard-Brahaney, Department of Defense Education Activity – Europe Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the selection of Patrick Martin as the new DoDEA Europe East District Superintendent.
“Patrick brings a wealth of experience and proven leadership to this critical role,” said Brahaney. “His strategic vision, dedication to student success, and deep understanding of educational best practices make him exceptionally well-suited to serve the East District. I’m proud to welcome him to this position and confident in his ability to drive continued growth and excellence across our schools.”
Martin, a native of Upstate New York, has more than 20 years of experience in public education and educational policy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from SUNY Oswego and master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction from The George Washington University and in educational administration and supervision from the University of Virginia.
He began his career in Southern California at the Perris Union High School District before working in Washington, D.C., as a teacher-in-residence at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and with the National Council for History Education.
Since joining DoDEA in 2009, Martin has served in several leadership roles, including Education Technology Coordinator, Education Policy Specialist, and Chief of Staff for DoDEA Europe East District. He also held school leadership positions as assistant principal and principal at Alconbury Middle High School, where the school earned consecutive College Board Platinum Distinctions.
“As Superintendent of DoDEA Europe’s East District, Patrick is committed to fostering academic excellence and ensuring every student has access to innovative and high-quality learning opportunities,” said Brahaney. “He will lead with vision and clarity, supporting educators, leaders, and families across the district, and bringing a strong focus on both student achievement and community engagement.”
