—
Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific West District Superintendent Mr. Dr. Jacob Sherwood and Guam Community Superintendent Gail Wiley are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Kimberly Zerbst as Principal of McCool Elementary Middle School.
Dr. Zerbst brings unique perspectives in service to military connected families, having served as both Assistant Principal at Bob Hope Elementary and Regional Instructional Systems Specialist for Advanced Placement at the DoDEA Pacific Region office in Okinawa, Japan. Prior to joining DoDEA, Dr. Zerbst was privileged to serve as Principal of a charter Middle/High School in Charleston SC that supported military students stationed at Joint Base Charleston. She has actively developed a broad understanding of the educational needs of military-connected families from both inside and outside the gate.
Before working for several years as Assistant Principal at two top-ranked middle and high schools in Charleston, SC Dr. Zerbst relished her time as a social studies teacher in coursework ranging from 7th grade social studies at a Title 1 school, to numerous high school AP courses - with AP World History topping her list of favorites. While teaching, Dr. Zerbst obtained her master’s degree in Secondary Educational Leadership as well as earning National Board Certification focusing on innovative strategies to use data and technology to improve student outcomes. A lifelong learner, Dr. Zerbst holds an Educational Doctorate (EdD) in Educational Leadership and continues to mentor educators pursuing educational research.
A native of upstate New York, Dr. Zerbst, and her husband are blessed to have a blended family on the east coast including five adult children and five grandchildren. In her free time, Dr. Zerbst enjoys making pottery, kayaking, and hanging out with Bob, her Okinawan rescue kitten. Dr. Zerbst is delighted to join the McCool Elementary Middle School community in seeking to "Educate, Engage, and Empower each student to succeed in a dynamic world." She looks forward to developing and cultivating strong relationships with families, students, staff and community members at McCool and in Guam.
