Alexandria, VA —
Department of War Education Activity Americas Mid-Atlantic District Superintendent Mr. Ryan Smith is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Vanessa L. Soito as Assistant Principal of Johnson Primary School, effective March 9, 2026.
Ms. Vanessa L. Soito is a National Board-Certified Teacher with more than 20 years of experience supporting elementary learners. She began her career as a classroom teacher after earning her Bachelor of Science in Education from Rhode Island College in 2001 and later completed a Master of Arts in Counseling and Educational Psychology at Providence College in 2005. Her transition into elementary counseling strengthened her focus on comprehensive, data‑driven student support and reinforced her commitment to student well‑being, academic growth, and equitable access to learning.
Ms. Soito’s career spans both stateside and overseas school communities. In South Carolina, she supported military‑connected students and families at Fort Jackson, strengthening her commitment to whole‑child development and resilience. She later earned a master’s in educational administration from Grand Canyon University in 2024, broadening her leadership in school improvement and student services. Her work has included numerous committee and leadership roles focused on advancing schoolwide achievement and collaboration. In 2022, she joined DoWEA at Feltwell Elementary School in the United Kingdom, gaining valuable experience with diverse military‑connected learners across multiple educational settings.
Ms. Soito is married to her husband, a retired U.S. Air Force service member, and together they enjoy a blended family with three children—a graduate student, a college sophomore, and a high school junior. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she values time with her family and remains committed to supporting the unique needs of military‑connected communities. She is honored to join the Johnson Primary School community and looks forward to fostering a safe, inclusive, and student‑centered environment while building strong partnerships with students, families, and staff.
