Rezone of Schools in Okinawa for School Year 20-21

Families who live in Sunabe will need to register students at the schools where they now be attending based on school zone changes.
Students who live in Sunabe will attend Lester Middle School for grades 6-8 and Kubasaki High School for grades 9-12. If you are unsure of your attendance area, please check with district registrar at 634-8995. Our staff will be there to support students through the required shifts.

Ms. Lachanda Garrison Selected as 2021 DoDEA Europe South District Teacher of the Year

Lachanda Garrison was announced today as the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Europe South District 2021 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Garrison teaches 2nd Grade at Bahrain Elementary School in Manama, Bahrain. She has 13 years of experience teaching with DoDEA, including 1st and 3rd grades, multi-age grades, and as an instructional coach in elementary mathematics and literacy.

Ms. Caletha Ellis Selected as 2021 DoDEA Europe West District Teacher of the Year

Caletha Ellis was announced today as the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Europe West 2021 District Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Ellis teaches mixed grade levels (9-12) at Lakenheath High School in the United Kingdom. Her current teaching assignment includes AP U.S. History, Psychology, Sociology, & U.S. History.

Mr. Brian Perry, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Fort Stewart/South Carolina Community Superintendent, selected Ms. Andrea Marr as the principal for Charles P. Murray Elementary School at Fort Stewart, Georgia effective April 13.

DoDEA provides English language training to Japanese teachers in Okinawa

Through a partnership with DoDEA, the U.S. State Department, and the Okinawa Liaison Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DoDEA hosted an English language training — also known as the English Language Initiative — for Japanese elementary school teachers Jan. 30-31 at Kadena Elementary School.

Gordon Harmon Named New HR Director

Mr. Gordon Harmon has been selected as DoDEA’s director of human resources (HR). Harmon assumes the new position after serving as the acting HR director since July 2019. Prior to this assignment, he served as the HR special assistant to the HR director.
