Non-DoW Schools Program

Mission

Educate, engage, and empower each student to succeed in a dynamic world. As a part of Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), the Non-Department of Defense Schools Program (NDSP) adopts the DoDEA mission and vision statement.

Vision

To be among the world's leaders in education, enriching the lives of military-connected students and the communities in which they live.

Goal

To provide support to facilitate continuity of education in international locations.

The Non-DoW Schools Program (NDSP) provides educational support and financial assistance to defray costs for PK-12th grade education in overseas locations where there are no DoDEA schools available. The NDSP supports the Agency’s vision of excellence in education for “every student, every day, everywhere.”

    • Command-sponsored DoW and US Coast Guard dependents (active duty and civilian) serving on Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, and
    • Grades PK-12th grade, and
    • In locations overseas where there are no DoDEA-operated schools and where the Joint Travel Regulation permits overseas accompanied tours. The NDSP is not authorized to support in the United States, it’s territories or in locations not authorized for dependents.

The DoW sponsor will apply for an eligibility review by accessing the online portal. Eligibility requirements should be reviewed in advance. An education allowance is established for each location and grade level and is used to defray the required costs of education. It may not cover all costs. A listing of authorized costs should be reviewed before selecting the educational option. Once the sponsor has been determined eligible, they will work with the finance team to arrange tuition payments and/or reimbursements for Homestudy expenses.

A research tool to locate schools at your duty station can be found at ndspmap.dodea.edu. The NDSP does not certify, nor endorse schools. The schools found on the mapping tool are comprised of a list of schools where other families have registered their child.

Visit the NDSP Orientation for additional information about the Non DoW Schools Program policies and processes.
