As digital learning continues to expand, DoWEA remains committed to ensuring our most important and vulnerable population can safely explore, create, and learn online.
To support this mission, a suite of Lightspeed Systems solutions that work together to promote online safety, reduce distractions, and help educators create focused learning environments has been implemented. These tools provide layered protections that support student success while giving parents confidence that their children are learning in a secure digital environment.
Lightspeed Classroom
In Fall 2026, DoWEA implemented Lightspeed Classroom to help teachers maximize instructional time and create more focused digital learning environments. The platform provides educators with real-time visibility into student browser activity, enabling them to monitor engagement, redirect attention, and minimize digital distractions during instruction.
Importantly, the platform is designed with our students’ privacy in mind. Lightspeed Classroom does not access student cameras or microphones, ensuring a supportive educational experience for each student while giving parents confidence that their children’s privacy and well-being remain protected.
Lightspeed SmartPlay
At the start of School Year 2025–2026, DoWEA introduced Lightspeed SmartPlay to enhance the safety and effectiveness of video-based learning. SmartPlay applies advanced, AI-driven filtering to streaming platforms such as YouTube, helping ensure students have access to age-appropriate educational content while reducing exposure to unsuitable material.
Rather than broadly restricting video content for all students, SmartPlay allows filtering settings to be customized for different age groups and learning needs, ensuring students can access relevant educational resources while reducing exposure to distractions such as comments, suggested videos, and sidebars. The result is a safer, more focused digital learning experience that supports student engagement both in the classroom and at home when using a DoWEA student account.
Lightspeed Filter
Fully implemented across DoWEA schools in Spring 2024, Lightspeed Filter assists in protecting students from inappropriate, harmful, and non-educational online content wherever they use their DoWEA-issued device. Whether learning at school or at home, students benefit from age-appropriate internet filtering that supports safe access to educational resources while helping reduce exposure to online risks and distractions.
