Microsoft Teams is a collaboration resource that allows you to chat, meet and work on files with your team from anywhere, any time.
Microsoft Teams is replacing Skype (i.e. Lync) for chat. Teams adds much more functionality for chat and meetings that can now connect you with staff across DoDEA as well as external contacts through Teams meetings. Additionally, as a hub for team work, Teams provides access to the Office online collaboration products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc. and more. See the Skype and Microsoft Teams comparison chart.
What to expect: You will no longer be able to sign into Skype nor create new Skype meetings.
What you need to do: Reschedule any Skype meeting set to occur after 31 March. See instructions on how to schedule a meeting in Teams.
Microsoft Teams integrates the people, content, and tools you need to make work easier.
Setup Your Access. Use the setup guide to configure your Microsoft 365 account and Teams login.
Already using DoDEA's Teams environment? View the Teams Quick Start Guide to learn how to navigate Microsoft Teams or view the Resources and Training page for more tips, tricks and helpful guides. Access Teams from your desktop or the Microsoft Portal.
DO NOT: Conduct, store, edit, share, discuss, draw or transmit ANY classified work; conduct non-DoD activities; download any material onto personal devices from the DoDEA environment.
Outlook/Calendar Limitations: In the initial Teams desktop installation, no other Microsoft Office 365 desktop apps will be installed. Since the first implementation phase of Microsoft 365 does not include Outlook online (email nor calendar nor contacts), you will not be able to use the Calendar function within Teams. Check the Implementation Roadmap (Timeline) to see when Microsoft Outlook online will be implemented. Those who lost Outlook access over the summer may have had an emergency release of desktop applications, which also provided access to Outlook.com.
To be one of the first to get early access to applications and services, consider being part of the DoDEA Champions Program.
Microsoft 365 installations have no connection to nor impact on Google access or availability. Education staff and students can continue to access Google. All DoDEA staff will have access to Microsoft 365 by the end of School Year 2020-21.
