The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a large organization serving more than 66,000 students at 160 schools located in 11 countries, seven states, and two territories.

Strategic and Organizational Excellence

The Strategic and Organizational Excellence Division leads the strategic way in planning, organizational performance, project management, process improvement, organizational design, and strategic talent development.

Communications

The Communications Division supports high student achievement, College and Career Readiness, and contributes to DoDEA’s organizational success and sustainment through effective communication with all stakeholders.  Committed to developing the college and career readiness of all students, the DoDEA Communications Division disseminates timely and accurate information to further positive relationships and establish, maintain, and sustain credibility between DoDEA and its key publics.  The office consists of three branches: Public Affairs, Social Media, and Video Production Branch; Web Services, Marketing, and Graphics Branch; and Program Planning and Management Branch.

Diversity Equity and Inclusion

The DODEA DEI Division was established in 2021 to create equitable access to opportunities, resources, and support for students, employees, and families through examination of beliefs, policies, practices, and interactions to eliminate inequities and disparities. The DEI division will advance equity and cultural proficiency by interrupting systems of inequity in our policies, practices, and procedures by creating a climate that ensures diversity, equity and inclusivity for all students, staff and families.

The Diversity, Management, and Equal Opportunity Division leverages a diverse and inclusive workforce and workplace, free of unlawful discrimination, by enhancing leadership’s competencies and overall organizational capabilities. DoDEA Procurement provides information on professional acquisition services in support of the education of children in military families across the globe while maintaining compliance with federal and DoD procurement laws and regulations.
Executive Services Division

Executive Services Division

The Executive Services Division ensures DoDEA day-to-day operations effectively meet the requirements of DoD and federal rules, regulations, and laws as the agency accomplishes its primary mission. The Division consists of the Government Information Branch, the Records Management Branch, and the Administrative Support Branch.
Facilities

Facilities

Globally, the Facilities Division maintains 600 buildings, totaling approximately 19.6 million gross square feet. In addition to the operations, maintenance and repair of existing facilities, the Facilities Division is responsible for the planning, design, and construction-management of all renovations, and new facilities being built.
General Counsel

The General Counsel facilitates DoDEA’s global educational mission by providing timely legal advice and counsel, effective advocacy, and creative problem-solving. The Division consists of the following branches: Center for Dispute Resolution, Procurement and Fiscal Law Branch, Labor Law and Litigation Branch, Administrative Law Branch, and Overseas Field Offices.

Information Technology

Information Technology

The Information Technology Division is responsible for all aspects of DoDEA's IT and systems implementation. It is our goal to provide technology vision and leadership for developing and implementing the organization's initiatives in a manner that creates and maintains leadership. We accomplish this through our six branches that are focused on our core values of excellence, integrity, and customer service.

Logistics

The core function Logistics include providing support for the following programs: Supply Policy and Asset Management Program; School Outfitting and Furniture Replacement Program, Student Transportation Program, Student Meal Program, Support Agreement Program, and much more.

Office of DoDEA Policy

The Operations, Plans, Legislation, and Policy Division administers and operates DoDEA's program in publishing and maintaining DoDEA-level policies and facilitates DoD-level issuances for the agency. Additionally, the Division oversees the Director's Issuance Focal Point Working Group that works on larger issues involving the DoDEA policy program. In addition, the Division handles Congressional inquiries on behalf of constituents, and reviews legislation, the annual National Defense Authorization Act and Defense Appropriations, and other inquiries from the legislative branch.

The Office of the Inspector General provides independent and objective oversight to improve and promote the integrity, accountability, and performance of the DoDEA programs.
Ombudsman Program

Ombudsman Program

The DODEA Ombudsman Program was established in 2019 as an informal, independent, confidential and neutral means of communicating and facilitating the resolution of individual, group, and system-level concerns without fear of retaliation. The Ombudsman will listen to an individual or group’s issues, explore options, and weigh the pros and cons of various options for resolution.

Research, Accountability and Evaluations

The Research, Accountability, and Evaluations Division is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making in DoDEA and developing a system of accountability based on that data. The Division consists of the Research Branch, the Accountability Branch, and the Evaluation Branch.
Resource Management

Resource Management

The Resource Management Division requests, manages, and budgets resources in the DoDEA military communities worldwide to ensure educational programs are adequately funded, so the agency can prepare all students for success in a global environment. The Division oversees financial management information, budget books, tuition rates, and other data related to manpower and enrollment.
Safety and Occupational Health

Safety and Occupational Health

The Safety and Occupational Health Division consists of two branches: Policy, Oversight, and Reporting Branch, and District Safety Offices. The Policy, Oversight, and Reporting Branch serves as the principal Safety and Occupational Health advisor, accident prevention policy and program developer, performance monitor, and point of contact for all Safety and Occupational Health matters. The District Safety Offices communicate and work ongoing safety issues through the District Safety and District Chief of Staff.

Security Management is responsible for establishing and maintaining various security programs that promote secure work and learning environments for DoDEA students, staff, and visitors. The Division implements programmatic policies, operational procedures, and outreach with the military commands, host installation counterparts, and DoDEA customers.

SOE will support DoDEA as we create a culture where our plans tightly align to our strategy, progress monitoring is an everyday event, plans are executed collaboratively, and our budgets and procurements are directly connected to our strategic way forward. We will realize our vision through a continuous improvement process and customer support orientation. We are committed to working with all DoDEA partners, incorporating their feedback, and creating productive working relationships.

Education Policy and Operations

The Education Policy and Operations Division provides leadership, management, and support for the HQ's Education Directorate in order to strengthen DoDEA's standards-based educational system with a primary focus on college and career-ready student outcomes.  Responsibilities include system-wide education policy and guidance, education financial and business operations, student information system, and student eligibility.

Comprehensive Assessment System

The Integrated Content and Assessment Division ensures broad access to accurate and timely student and school level information which is used for educational decision making. The use of this information also provides high quality technical assistance and professional development to school and department personnel. The Division is also responsible for ensuring that policies, procedures, and decisions support a high performing and accountable education system.

Curriculum and Instruction Division

The Curriculum and Instruction Division provides leadership and support to the districts and school levels to help educators and students achieve excellence. Curriculum and Instruction envisions an environment of equitable learning where all students have equal access to participate in, and benefit from, educational opportunities.

DoDEA Partnership and Resources

Partnership and Resources Division: supports the DoDEA vision as we work alongside DoDEA schools to ensure there is Excellence in Education for Every Student, Every Day, Everywhere. Our work extends to military-connected students in states and countries that are not directly served by DoDEA schools.

The Professional Learning Division establishes a systemic plan for educational professional learning within DoDEA that aligns to the DoDEA Blueprint. The Division is comprised of the following three specialties: Professional Development, Leadership Development, and Instructional Design, E-Learning, and Graphic Design.
Student Services Division

Student Services Division

Student Services provides leadership, guidance, and support in the provision of services to foster a safe learning environment and remove academic, social, physical, and emotional barriers that impact student access to be college or career ready. Student Services has four branches: Counseling Branch, School Health Branch, Special Education Branch, and Section 504 Branch.

Student Excellence Pacific

The Student Excellence Pacific Division, led by the Director for Student Excellence (DSE), provides leadership, guidance, and support to both internal and external stakeholders throughout the Pacific. The goal is to promote synergy among all functional areas that positively impacts military families and students stationed overseas. The Division ensures the availability of adequate resources and disperses relevant information and outreach opportunities to all school complexes within the region.

The Student Excellence Europe Division, led by the Director (DSE), provides leadership, guidance, and support to both internal and external stakeholders throughout Europe.
