Chief Learning Officer magazine, a publication of Human Capital Media, announced the winners of the 13th annual Learning In Practice Awards on September 27th at a special dinner at the CLO Symposium Plus conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. DoDEA Director Thomas Brady and the DoDEA organization were honored with the Innovation Award (Bronze/Division 1), reserved for learning executives who have marshaled resources and applied innovative practices, processes and/or technologies in a new and groundbreaking way to address a significant business or organizational opportunity.


The Training Officers Consortium recently presented DoDEA with this year's Distinguished Service Award for its efforts in preparing staff to restructure DoDEA to better serve students. The award, given on June 14, 2016, recognizes DoDEA for successfully implementing change management training systems within its organization. Principal Deputy Director and Associate Director of Academics Dr. Linda Curtis accepted the award on behalf of Director Tom Brady.


DoDEA's vision-to be among the world's leaders in education-is founded on a standards-based education model where all component parts are developed and aligned to enable students to meet high academic expectations. In 2014, DoDEA identified two key strategic priorities to elevate and support students' academic success. These priorities are College and Career Readiness (CCR) and Restructuring for Student Achievement (RSA).

Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, DoDEA began to implement the College and Career Readiness priority focusing on standards that are infused with rigor and relevancy, and a common standards-aligned curriculum, instructional framework, and assessment system. At the same time, DoDEA introduced Restructuring for Student Achievement to establish the organizational capacity to uniformly improve student achievement and school operations. This priority focuses on centralizing key above-school level education directorate positions, and financial and business operations functions required to support schools, teachers, and students, while providing districts and schools with responsive resources across their dispersed locations.
