Welcome to Heroes Elementary School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you have been enjoying a great summer! It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! We want to send a special welcome to any students new to Heroes this year.  We are excited to have our returning students back with us again too. This will be another joyful school year full of learning.

I want to share some information that will help you prepare for the start of the school year.

COVID Guidelines

DoDEA recently published updated Version 6 COVID protocols for its schools.  Fortunately, as per these guidelines, if our military installation is at an Alpha or Bravo health level, we will engage in face-to-face instruction.  Of course, we will continue implementing various mitigation practices such as social distancing, frequent hand-washing and sanitizing, and continuing to wear masks inside the school.  Unfortunately, DoDEAs updated guidelines also require us to limit visitors and forgo face-to-face group events.

Open House

As per the V6 DoDEA COVID Guidelines, a virtual Open House will be held on August 20th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm. All students and parents are invited to log in to meet your teachers and get a virtual tour of your new classrooms.  Of course, teachers will be ready to answer any questions you may have too. Additional information about how to log in, etc. will be provided when this date gets closer.

Backpacks and Lunch Boxes

Students will be allowed to carry backpacks and lunch boxes to/from school this year. We respectfully request that these items are cleaned/sanitized daily.

Our PTO NEEDS YOUR HELP! They are looking for more volunteers for this school year.  If interested or if you have questions, please email our PTO officers at .

Facebook Live Back to School Principal’s Meeting

A back-to-school informational meeting with Q&A opportunity will take place on Facebook Live (on our Heroes Facebook page) on August 12th from 12:00pm-1:00pm.  All parents are invited to participate online.  I will do my best to answer any questions you may have about the start of school.

The first day of school for Kindergarteners to 5th graders is Monday, August 23rd.  The first day of school for our preschool students is Tuesday, September 7th.  The K-5th grade school day is from 8:30am to 3:00pm every day except Wednesdays.  The preschool teachers will send out additional detailed information to preschool parents about their half-day morning or afternoon sessions.  We release all students at 1:00pm on Wednesdays.  Students may begin arriving at school as early as 8:00am to line up or have breakfast.  But, please – students must not arrive prior to 8:00am as we do not have the staff to supervise them.

Along with ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment, Heroes Elementary School will continue to focus on Excellence in Education for Every Student Every Day Everywhere (DoDEAs Vision). Fulfilling our vision means that we have high expectations that all of our children can learn and, through our collective efforts, all of our children will meet our rigorous CCR academic standards.

Please visit our school website for the Camp Lejeune School calendar, Heroes student handbook, Camp Lejeune school dress code, information about Camp Lejeune school busses and meal program, and more.  I hope to “see” you on Facebook on August 12th to answer your questions.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Dr. Kimberley Redmond-Carr
Heroes Elementary School

Hello, my name is Jeffrey Carr, and I am very excited to be the Assistant Principal at Heroes Elementary School, as well as, Johnson Primary School. I love all aspects of our educational system and am proud to be an administrator at DoDEA. I began teaching in 1986 and find every new school year to be full of adventure.

The resiliency and flexibility of military connected families was evident during the last school year which presented challenges never faced before. I believe it helped us all see that we can adapt to any situation and still move forward.

I am delighted to be a part of the Heroes Elementary family and look forward to an interesting year. I look forward to cultivating a relationship with the families of Heroes. I welcome new ideas and suggestions with the idea that you know your child better than anyone. We will form a partnership based on what is the best course of education for your child. Everyone has something to offer and all students can excel if given the right guidance.

Feel free to contact me anytime at Heroes Elementary School if you have any questions or suggestions that may help make HES a better place.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Let’s make it the best one so far!
