Records & Information Management Program


The DoDEA Records & Information Management Program is responsible for oversight and implementation of the Federal Records Act within the Offices of the Department of Defense Education Activity. The program provides policy and procedures for life-cycle management of information created and received by DoDEA Headquartered Divisions.

Purpose and Authority

  • Serving as the office of record in accordance with 44 USC Chapters 31 and 33; 36 CFR 1220-1236, DoDI 5015.02 and AI-15 OSD Records and Information Management Program.
  • Ensuring positive control over the organization, maintenance, use, designation, and disposition of DoDEA-serviced Divisions’ records and information, regardless of media.
  • Maintaining and updating the DoDEA Records Disposition Schedules. Ensuring schedules are updated and distributed as NARA approves new schedules or revises the GRS citations.
  • Developing and applying standards, procedures, and techniques for improving records management; ensuring the maintenance and timely retirement of records of continuing value; and facilitating the segregation and disposal of all records of temporary value.
  • Instituting and overseeing a records management evaluation program in accordance with 44 USC Chapters 31 and 33; 36 CFR 1220-1236, DoDI 5015.2 and AI-15 and Executive Order 13526 to ensure compliance of the DoDEA-serviced Divisions, and to provide for improvements and changes to existing procedures and records schedules.

The Freedom of Information Act Office supports all actions related to Freedom of Information requests submitted by the public for access to records under the control of the Offices of the Department of Defense Education Activity.


Administers and provides guidance and direction to employees of the Department of Defense Education Activity as it relates to the Privacy Act, Information Collection, and Forms Management Programs.


The Executive Services Division administers the correspondence management policies and processes designed to efficiently and effectively capture and preserve documents for the Department of Defense Education Activity Headquarters.


DOPSR is responsible for managing the Department of Defense security review program, reviewing written materials both for public and controlled release.


The Directives Division administers and operates the DoD Issuances Program, the DoD Information Collections Program, DOD Forms Management Program, GAO Affairs, and the DoD Plain Language Program for the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
