Microsoft 365

DoDEA is implementing Microsoft 365 to allow you to collaborate effectively, anywhere and at any time - securely and to modernize our technology to help support student excellence.

Microsoft 365 (M365) is a suite of online and desktop applications, which includes familiar apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more. DoDEA will make Microsoft 365 services available in phases beginning with the Microsoft Teams desktop app, which will replace Skype for chat and meetings.

Phased Implementation

Microsoft 365 online and desktop applications will be implemented in a layered and phased approach - meaning that apps and services will be rolled out by organizational levels in specific batches.

  1. Microsoft 365 Account, Teams Desktop app and Microsoft Online Portal
  2. Microsoft Office Desktop Apps Upgrade & Outlook (email) Online Migration
  3. File Migration to online storage (OneDrive and SharePoint): mid-year 2021
  4. SharePoint Online Migration: late 2021

Skype to Team Transition

Phase 1: M365 Account and Microsoft Teams Transition - COMPLETE ✔

Government-issued computers have been upgraded to the newest Microsoft Office apps – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Publisher. The installation includes enhanced charts, ability to co-author in real-time with staff who have M365 account, improved file sharing and more.

Limitations, Considerations and Future Availability

DO NOTConduct, store, edit, share, discuss, draw or transmit ANY classified work; conduct non-DoD activities; download any material onto personal devices from the DoDEA environment.

Outlook Access: Neither Outlook (email, calendar and to-do features) nor syncing of your existing local files within OneDrive are included in the initial Teams rollout. Those who lost Outlook access over the summer may have had an emergency release of desktop applications, which also provided access to Outlook.com.

Future Availability: To be one of the first to get early access to applications and services, consider being part of the DoDEA Champions Program. See the Implementation Roadmap (Timeline) for additional Microsoft 365 services and related data.

Microsoft 365 (M365) installations have no connection to nor impact on Google G Suite availability. DoDEA has both M365 and Google as part of our technology portfolio. Education staff and students can continue to access Google. All DoDEA staff will have access to Microsoft 365 by the end of School Year 2020-21.
