Arrival Dismissal Procedures

Arrival Procedures

  • Students should not arrive before 7:50 AM unless they are eating breakfast in the cafeteria.
  • Students eating breakfast should go to the cafeteria at 7:40 AM, entering through the main front entrance.
  • Children arriving after 8:00 AM are tardy and must report to the office for a pass.

Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures

  • Use the school's left drive which is a drop off only zone. Do not exit your vehicle if you are using the front drive, nor use the staff parking lot as a drop off area.
  • Never drop-off students in non-designated zones, such as the driving lanes in front of the building.
  • Pay attention to the teachers and the students performing crosswalk guard duty, and follow their commands.
  • Drive forward all the way to the end of loading/unloading zone or to the car parked in front of you.
  • Make sure your children have their things prepared in advance for unloading. This will help us to speed up the process.
  • As soon as you are stopped and are between LOADING/UNLOADING ZONE signs, quickly load/unload students.
  • Do not block the pedestrian crosswalk.
  • Load/unload the students on the passenger side of the vehicle.
  • Please yield to the vehicles passing on your left when you are pulling out after the drop-off.

BICYCLES: Students may ride bicycles to school. Students are expected to follow all safety rules and take the recommended routes to school. Bicycles should be placed and secured in the bicycle racks with an appropriate lock and may not be ridden on school grounds. Students who ride bicycles are required to wear safety helmets. Shughart is not responsible for damage to bicycles or theft. (Fort Bragg Regulation 385-10) Skateboards and scooters can be ridden to school, but students must carry them once they reach the crosswalk.
