Ms. Shelia Gilliard
Biography
Ms. Shelia Gilliard brings nearly four decades of educational experience and leadership to DeLalio Elementary School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Reading Education, and a Master of School Administration from Fayetteville State University.
After teaching English and Social Studies in Cumberland County Schools for 20 years, Ms. Gilliard began her administrative career in 2006 as an assistant principal at John Griffin Middle School, later serving as a principal in Hoke County Schools and Moore County Schools. Prior to joining DeLalio Elementary School, she served as principal of Brewster Middle School aboard Camp Lejeune.
The past three years as principal of DeLalio Elementary have been among the most rewarding of her career. Inspired by the dedication of students, staff, families, and military partners, she remains committed to fostering the Magic of Learning through strong partnerships with parents and command leadership. Ms. Gilliard also embraces a renewed commitment to traditional and classical educational approaches that build strong literacy skills, character, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
As the widow of the late Captain Ronald Gilliard, U.S. Army, Ms. Gilliard shares a personal connection to the military community. She is also the proud mother of LCDR Danielle Gilliard-Pella, CDC Health Scientist, and mother-in-love to Mr. Michael Pella.
