Ms. Y-Keyla Perry
Biography
Ms. Y-Keyla Perry, a dedicated educator and leader from Henderson, North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem State University, where her passion for teaching began. Committed to academic excellence, she pursued advanced degrees: a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University, followed by an Education Specialist degree in Reading from Arkansas State University.
During her collegiate years, Ms. Perry joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and actively participated in the Thurgood Marshall Teacher Quality and Retention Program. She credits the Thurgood Marshall College Foundation for providing transformative professional development that shaped her career.
Ms. Perry began her teaching career in North Carolina Public Schools, teaching first, third, and fourth grade. She also served as a Math Instructional Coach and completed her School Administration internship. Her dedication to student achievement earned her recognition as a Highly Qualified Teacher and placement in the Top 25% of educators for exceeding student growth expectations—twice.
After completing her graduate studies, she joined Danville Public Schools in Virginia, as a Title 1 Instructional Coach. In 2019, she transitioned to DoWEA, serving in various roles: third grade teacher at Pinckney Elementary School, Fort Jackson, Professional Learning ISS, Fort Knox, and Assistant Principal at Johnson Primary School, Camp Lejeune.
Ms. Perry brings a wealth of experience and commitment to supporting military-connected families. Outside of work, she enjoys shopping, traveling, reading, and cherishes time with family and friends. She is honored to serve the Crossroads Elementary community and remains dedicated to fostering educational excellence and leadership.
