Mrs. Latressa T. Renée Cobb
Biography
A native of Kinston and Jacksonville, North Carolina, Ms. Cobb began her adventure into education as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow at North Carolina Central University. Ms. Cobb holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Mathematics, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Technology, a Master of Education in Educational Administration, and a Master of Education in Special Education.
Relocating to Japan in 2011 to support her husband’s career in the United States Navy, Ms. Cobb joined DoWEA as a local hire mathematics educator at Yokosuka Middle School in Yokosuka, Japan. While in this role, Ms. Cobb served as mathematics department chair, team leader, and Continuous School Improvement (CSI) Co-Chair. After leading technology professional development and policies at Yokosuka Middle School, Ms. Cobb was selected as the educational technologist for Yokosuka Middle School in 2014. In 2017, Ms. Cobb transferred to Matthew C. Perry High School, located at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan, as an educational technologist. Shortly after her arrival, she was promoted to assistant principal of Matthew C. Perry High School. She served in this role until July 2020.
In July 2020, Ms. Cobb was selected as the principal for Iwakuni Elementary School. While at Iwakuni Elementary School, Ms. Cobb has been recognized for implementing instructional programs, such as "One School, One Book," to improve student achievement as well as motivation surrounding literacy. Ms. Cobb has fostered the blending of innovative and traditional teaching methods to provide a solid foundation for active learning and teaching that is based on intentional decision-making rooted in data with an emphasis on digital resources. Ms. Cobb is proud to have been a part of developing Iwakuni Elementary School's first Student Council, giving students a voice and helping to develop them as leaders.
Ms. Cobb is married to retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Samuel (Mike) Cobb. Their daughter, Taylor, a DoWEA graduate, is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force as an Operations Intelligence Specialist, and their son, Jalen, also a DoWEA graduate, is a sophomore at North Carolina A&T State University. Having navigated life as a military spouse, raised military-connected children, and now as the mother of an active-duty service member, Ms. Cobb deeply understands the unique challenges and rewards of military life.
