DoDEA Pacific announces 2021-22 athletics, Far East academics plans for Pacific East and West districts

Pacific Region —
As the Department of Defense Education Activity – Pacific Region prepares to begin the 2021-22 school year next month, district leaders have been coordinating with military installation commands and public health officials to determine offerings for fall athletics and Far East academic activities.
Athletics
The Pacific West District (Korea, Guam) and Pacific East District (mainland Japan) plan to offer a full fall athletics schedule including football, cross country, cheer, tennis, golf, volleyball and drill. In Korea and mainland Japan, competition will be limited to intra-district play between installations and will be limited to locations that can be traveled using a DoDEA bus. In Guam, student athletes will compete on-island in the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam (IIAAG). Please understand while our intent is to offer a full schedule, these plans may change at any time due to shifts in local conditions.
Far East Academic Events
The Far East academic event Jazz & Modern Music will transition to a virtual-hybrid model, with students gathering in-person within district to participate in regional Far East events with their peers in the DoDEA Pacific Region.
Coordination is ongoing in the Pacific South District (Okinawa). Further information will be shared with stakeholders when available
The DoDEA Pacific Region would like to thank our installation command and public health partners for their support of our military-connected students as we continue to strive to provide athletic and academic opportunities while adhering to appropriate mitigation strategies that support safe and healthy programs.
