Dr. Vicki Gilmer to retire after 33 years with DoDEA

Fort Novosel, AL —

Dr. Vicki Gilmer, principal of Parker Elementary School, on Fort Novosel, Alabama, will be retiring May 31, 2023 after 33 years with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

“Dr. Gilmer is a phenomenal administrator who has impacted the lives of military-connected children with joy, diligence, and grace,” said DoDEA Georgia/Alabama Community Superintendent Dr. Lisa B. Coleman. “Although she will be truly missed, I congratulate her on her retirement.”

About Dr. Vicki Gilmer

Dr. Gilmer began her career with DoDEA at Fort Rucker Primary School where she taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and Reading Recovery. In 2000, she was selected as the Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Gilmer began her administrative career first as the Assistant Principal, and then as Principal of Fort Rucker Elementary School. In 2016, Dr. Gilmer became Principal of both Ft. Rucker Primary and Ft. Rucker Elementary Schools, which combined into a new 21st Century School in 2020. Dr. Gilmer was named DoDEA Americas Principal of the Year for SY 17-18.

Dr. Gilmer earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama, a Master's degree from Troy University, and a Doctoral (PhD) degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Auburn University. Dr. Gilmer also serves as an adjunct instructor at Troy University-Dothan.

Dr. Gilmer and her husband, Shawn, reside in Headland, Alabama, and have three children, Ashley, Delaney, and Sam.
