The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) proudly announces that Dr. Terri Marshall, the DoDEA Virtual High School principal, has been selected as the 2020 DoDEA Principal of the Year.

Thomas Brady, DoDEA Director, praised Dr. Marshall for her work in building and expanding the Virtual High School to its current structure and for providing invaluable support to DoDEA schools across Europe, Pacific and Americas Regions as the COVID-19 pandemic forced a complete transition to digital learning.

“Usually, the Principal of the Year is recognized for what they have done at their school, and Dr. Marshall has a long list of accomplishments with the Virtual High School,” said Brady. “However, over the past several weeks Terri’s tireless support of other principals has had an impact on every school and student in our entire system.”

Dr. Marshall has been a principal for 16 years in DoDEA, serving in Germany, the United Kingdom and as a Principal in Residence at DoDEA headquarters prior to taking on the principalship at DoDEA’s Virtual High School (DVHS).

"I am honored, humbled, and blessed to be named as the 2020 Principal of the Year for DoDEA,” said Dr. Marshall. “I share this recognition with my team - the DVHS staff. The success of the DoDEA Virtual High School is a direct result of teamwork, perseverance and dedication to the military connected students that we serve."

Dr. Marshall holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from Argosy University, Master’s in Education from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.

Along with the award and recognition, Dr. Marshall will compete in the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ National Principal of the Year program, which recognizes outstanding middle and high school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning experiences for students as well as demonstrating exemplary contributions to the profession.
