The Far East Marksmanship Championship, the culminating event of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Pacific Region’s Marksmanship season, was held at Humphreys High School Feb. 5-7, 2025.
The Yokota High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) Marksmanship Team earned First Place Overall in the event. The team was comprised of six cadets: Shiri Sojot, Cera Wilson, Laivey Tsai, Kai Pluger, Lori Tillman, and Matthew Ballard.
M.C. Perry High School and Nile C. Kinnick High School earned second and third place, respectively.
“These student athletes dedicate hundreds of hours of practice throughout the season,” said MAJ (Ret.) Mark Sideno, Yokota High School Senior JROTC Instructor. “The spirit of competition was inspiring as Cadets bonded with their competitors, demonstrating professionalism in victory and a deep respect for their fellow athletes. Beyond their impressive performance on the range, what stood out the most was each Cadet's maturity, discipline, and esprit de corps; each supported one another through every challenge, overcame the rigors of international travel, and embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and the champion mindset.”
All 12 DoDEA Pacific JROTC programs participated in Far East Marksmanship, with a total of 72 cadets showcasing exceptional skill, resilience, and teamwork throughout the event.
