Smith ES: Principal's Corner

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Smith Elementary School, we extend a warm welcome to all students and families to the SY 2021-22. We are committed to DoDEA’s vision of Excellence in Education for Every Student, Every Day, Everywhere. We recognize and honor the reality that learning extends beyond the confines of a classroom, so it is our goal is to provide a world-class education that focuses on the whole child and brings curriculum content to life with real-world connections. In our efforts to do this, we know that by working as a team with all stakeholders, we can achieve our mission and vision.

Smith ES Mission

Educate, Engage and Empower military-connected students to succeed in a dynamic world.

Smith ES Vision

Excellence in Education for Every Student, Every Day, Everywhere.

As a faculty and staff, we work collaboratively to create warm, rigorous, and supportive learning environments that are informed by data and focused on students. To actualize this, we work together to design lessons, share instructional practices, review student data, and adjust our teaching to accommodate student learning as we are always striving to improve our craft of teaching. It is our sincere desire for our young scholars to be excited about school and learning, to make connections between curriculum and their lives, to learn from mistakes, and to become ready for success in our ever-changing 21st century society.

Additionally, we hold high expectations for our students, supporting and monitoring their progress toward grade level DoDEA College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS). Progress monitoring comes in the form of informal and formal assessments through observations, discussions, exit tickets, unit tests, quick checks, quarterly assessments, and comparing beginning-to-end of year data.

Last, we cherish our partnerships with parents and community members and know the positive impact it has on students and their achievement. Parents and community members, we welcome and encourage you to get involved with Smith ES, at home with your student(s) or on campus with PTO, SAC, or events. As your principal, I look forward to collaborating with parents, community members, and organizations to support our mission and vision!

Once again, welcome to Smith ES! We are looking forward to working with you to make this a wonderful school year for every Smith Bulldog!
